I was sort of dead because I’m now finishing high school and enrolling university very soon, but I won’t bother you about that. Instead, I want to open a topic that seems to bug some cosplayers including myself – cosplaying a character you don’t even know. What does this mean? Well:
1) That the cosplayer didn’t watch the anime/played the game/read the book/etc.. – meaning they don’t know how that character acts.
2) Cosplaying a character most likely only because it’s popular.
3) Trying to change the said characters personality and habits (this goes like 1)
-When can this work and when can it not?
It can work when:
-It’s a group cosplay and you get offered that character. Though it would still be neat if you could sit down and watch the anime/movie/play the game/etc to just learn about that character (aka decide whether you will even cosplay them or not)
It can’t work when:
-You just want to show off
-You think it’s cool
-You only like the design, but not the character themselves
-You didn’t watch the anime/movie/play the game/etc It’s just, sometimes you see people who dress up like, for example, Hit Girl from Kick Ass (I love the movie and she’s on my to-do list; watched both movies!) and you approach them all hyped about the character, but then you find out that they don’t even know who the hell she is or anything about her! It somehow offends those who cosplayed the character that they love and care about.

So please, don’t do a character that you don’t even like or know.
